Scalper US term for a bettor who attempts to profit from the differences/variations in the odds from bookmaker to bookmaker by betting both sides of the same game at different prices.
Scamdicapper A tout that makes false claims about win percentages with the aim to defraud unwary punters.
Score To win a lot of money.
Scout Person(s) who study team plays and/or practice and report findings to handicappers.
Scratch Withdraw; cancel.
Selection The horse, team you are backing.
SFC See Straight Forecast.

Sharp

A knowledgeable and smart bettor, a Wise guy.
Short odds Shorter odds - for example 2/1 is shorter than 4/1 - are applied to competitors that the bookmaker thinks are more likely to win..

Shorten

Referred to the odds getting shorter. The opposite of "lengthen".
Shortstop A small bettor.
Side To win one side and tie the other. For example, if you lay -2 1/2 and take 3 on the same game and the favorite wins by 3 you have "sided" the book. The book has been "sided".
Single A straight bet on one selection.
Smart Money Sides that are bet on by the more knowledgeable handicappers.
Soft Line A line that has been adjusted or moved as a result of action and does not reflect the true price.
Sport Player A person who waits for what he thinks is an unusually strong wager.
Sportsbook A US term for bookmaker.
Spread Short for point spread.
Square Unsophisticated bettor.
Stake The amount of money you bet.
Starting Price or SP The price on a horse at the start of the race, when the book closes.
Steam Heavy one side betting that causes a betting line to move quite rapidly. Most "steam games" do not necessarily reflect the "right side," but are games that the mass of punters somehow decide to key on.
Steamer A horse whose odds are continually shortened in the face of heavy support.
Straight Bet A bet on just one team or horse.
Straight Forecast The simplest form of a forecast: you bet on which horse will finish first and which will finish second.
Straight Forecast Doubles You make two forecast bets on two races and each bet must come in to win.
Sucker Bet Bet with a large bookmaker edge.
Super Yankee Same as a Canadian bet.
Sure Thing A can't lose bet.
Swinger A bet where you choose horses and any two horses must finish first, second or third in any order.

A method of betting used by a punter to try to get an advantage.
